PROJECT NARRATIVE
Physical and mental health can suffer due to insufficient sleep, but even getting enough sleep can be
problematic when sleep is qualitatively suboptimal.
Suboptimal sleep contributes in the general case to problems that include drowsiness, lethargy, muscle aches,
inattention, and poor memory, and in various disease states to problems that include cardiovascular issues,
anxiety, depression, and other stress-related dysfunctions.
To improve health for a wide variety of patients, including but not limited to patients with obstructive sleep
apnea, this project will usher in a new orientation to improving sleep with innovative methods for altering sleep
physiology in the home based on easy-to-use wearable technology that changes what happens in the brain
during sleep.

Publications
Publications are associated with projects, but cannot be identified with any particular year of the project or fiscal year of funding. This is due to the continuous and cumulative nature of knowledge generation across the life of a project and the sometimes long and variable publishing timeline. Similarly, for multi-component projects, publications are associated with the parent core project and not with individual sub-projects.
