Description
Abstract Text
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. A secure web-based data archiving and analysis program is being developed to facilitate multi-center research in the physiologic expression of cystic fibrosis gene defects. To investigate respiratory epithelial function in cystic fibrosis, the transepithelial electric potential difference across upper and lower respiratory mucosal cells is being measured in patients with cystic fibrosis, recurrent acute pancreatitis and healthy controls in response to the administration of amiloride (an inhibitor of sodium absorption). An intermediate response between the healthy controls and the cystic fibrosis response has been noted in some patients with recurrent acute pancreatitis. To facilitate data sharing across geographically remote sites and to create an easy to use interface for data entry and data submission, a form-based web application has been developed and is ready to be deployed on a secure server with an encrypted system. This application allows visualization of both electronic and scanned paper records and stores analysis results and subject information in a relational database back-end.

Publications
Publications are associated with projects, but cannot be identified with any particular year of the project or fiscal year of funding. This is due to the continuous and cumulative nature of knowledge generation across the life of a project and the sometimes long and variable publishing timeline. Similarly, for multi-component projects, publications are associated with the parent core project and not with individual sub-projects.
