This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
Biomarkers in Health and Disease is a protocol designed to build research infrastructure in the Dept. of Medicine. The protocol is the major activity of TRIDOM, the Translational Research Initiative in the Dept. of Medicine. Patients at Dept. of Medicine outpatient clinics are invited to participate in this study which requires them to answer a few short questions, give extra blood (20 ml) at the time of their next clinical blood draw, and be willing to allow us to access their medical record. The blood samples collected for the project are sent directly to the GCRC which extracts DNA, and aliquots DNA, plasma and serum for storage to use in future research investigations. The resulting sample collection is designed to facilitate research by Dept. of Medicine faculty and fellows by reducing the time and effort required to obtain biological specimens on sufficiently large samples to generate preliminary studies for research proposals. While this project is not focused on a single scientific question or specific research direction, large-scale sample collection efforts with goals similar to the goals of this project are now common at research institutions.

Publications
Publications are associated with projects, but cannot be identified with any particular year of the project or fiscal year of funding. This is due to the continuous and cumulative nature of knowledge generation across the life of a project and the sometimes long and variable publishing timeline. Similarly, for multi-component projects, publications are associated with the parent core project and not with individual sub-projects.
