Description
Abstract Text
DESCRIPTION (provided by applicant): Medicine's future will be guided by those who are able to move fluidly between the reductive approach of the basic lab and the holistic approach to human beings cultivated (or which should be cultivated) in the clinic. Our vision for the NYU Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) is to equip students to move between these realms after training them thoroughly in the skills each realm requires. Our training program aims to educate the next generation of physician-scientists, training out students to combine the rigor of the basic scientist with the knowledge base and holistic approach of the physician. Our intention is to continue to produce a cadre of individuals who will populate and be the leaders of academic medical centers, research institutes, and government health agencies.
Public Health Relevance Statement
The MSTP trains physician-scientists for careers in academic medicine, so that they can catalyze research in fields highly relevant to human health, including projects which translate discoveries from the research lab to the patient. This application requests funds to continue the operation of this highly successful training program.

Publications
Publications are associated with projects, but cannot be identified with any particular year of the project or fiscal year of funding. This is due to the continuous and cumulative nature of knowledge generation across the life of a project and the sometimes long and variable publishing timeline. Similarly, for multi-component projects, publications are associated with the parent core project and not with individual sub-projects.
